EFCC Interrogates Ex- Borno Governor, Ali Modu Sheriff




Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, on Monday interrogated ex-governor of Borno State and former factional National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, for hours at the agency’s office in Abuja.


According to the report the ex-governor was questioned on how he raised $72million to buy a G650 Gulfstream aircraft while having at least two private jets after leaving office in 2011.

He was also accused of benefiting from $200million released by the Former President Jonathan's administration to facilitate Boko Haram ceasefire in a neighboring country in 2014.

The anti-graft agency also want to find out if the said amount of money was transmitted by a top presidential aide to a foreign leader, who has a personal relationship with Sheriff.

It was also gathered that Sheriff was presented with records of monies shared ahead of the 2015 general election.

The ECCF had on June 6, 2016, questioned Mohammed Wakil, who was the PDP campaign coordinator for Borno State.

A statement released by the Head of Media and Publicity at the EFCC, Wilson Uwujaren narrated Wakil’s recount.

Wakil was quoted as saying the N450 million allocated to Borno was shared as follows: “Nicholas Msheliya, Peter Biye, Hon. Kudla satumaria, Hon. Ibrahim Birma, all from Southern Borno received the sum of N112,340.000.00.

“Equally Hon. Kangar, through Dr. Kulima A.A received N88, 620.000.00, while Engr Mohammad Baba Kachalla, Hon. Kaamuna Khadi, Hon. Zarma Mustapha and Hon. Abdulrahman Tarab received the sum of 140,860.000.00.

“Similarly, the sum of N40 million was allegedly given to Hon. Kumalia, for onward transmission to Sen. Ali Modu Sheriff for Security”.

Meanwhile, Sheriff was yesterday granted an administrative bail. His interrogation will continue today.
